A Hot Dinners exclusive

If you prefer dessert over any other course - then a pop-up coming to Islington will be right up your street. The Whisk Dessert Bar features a three-course dessert tasting menu, swapping out all the savoury dishes for sweet. Chef Simon Jenkins was Executive Pastry Chef at Marcus Wareing and before that worked at both the Waterside Inn and Le Manoir. Oh, and he was also named Craft Guild of Chefs Pastry Chef of the Year for 2018.

Last year he and business partner Randon Burns popped up in Bethnal Green for just a few nights. But their new home in Islington - they're taking over Jones & Sons at the Angel Centre - will see them running for three months this summer.

Guests start with an amuse bouche, and then choose a dessert from six options paired with dessert wine or tea/coffee, and petits fours to finish. Key dishes include:

  • Vanilla sorbet, fresh raspberries, Mara des bois strawberries, aged balsamic pearls, fresh basil cress, basil oil dressing, soft meringue
  • 68% dark chocolate crème, parsnip ice-cream, orange granita, fresh horseradish zest, orange puree
  • Avocado and white chocolate mousse, torched sweetcorn, chai chilli dressing, caramel cocoa nibs
  • Celery sorbet, crumbled blue cheese, fresh honeycomb, quince jelly, super thin flatbread
