What: Casa Fofó
In a nutshell: Neighbourhood spot by ex-Pidgin Head Chef
Summing it all up: The former Head Chef of Pidgin has moved about half a mile north in Hackney to open this neighbourhood spot with tasting menus, natural wine list and snacks.
The low-down
Hackney's dining scene is getting ready to embrace another tasting menu restaurant. Hard on the heels of Angelina opening in nearby Dalston, Casa Fofó sees the former head chef of Pidgin, Adolfo De Cecco throwing open the doors to his own place.
The neighbourhood spot, which takes over from Lardo Bebè on Sandringham Road, sees Adolfo, and a team he brought over from Pidgin, serving up a six course set menu for £39. Think dishes like middle white pork neck with peanut, Vivid Choi, nori, rice and horseradish or Pine with sour cherry and popcorn. Lots will be made in house from Casa Fofo's own charcuterie, to their handmade craft Ratafia.
If the set menu scene isn't your thing and you'd just like to try their wine list of natural and low intervention wines, there will also be a snack menu which sounds every bit as inventive as the main one including dishes like:
- Sourdough focaccia, lardo, jalapeño
- Pomme pailason, XO zabaione
- Shimiji mushroom, nori, egg yolk
The space is split into seats by the kitchen, there's a communal table in the basement or you could dine in the back garden when the weather's clement. "Diners should feel like house guests enjoying a meal especially prepared for them, based on the best ingredients that day and the mood we are in," says Adolfo.
