They already have a successful market in Elephant and Castle, with another on the way to Mayfair. Now Mercato Metropolitano are going very east - heading to Ilford for the next opening. They're taking over an open car park, for a huge new 31,000sq ft market.
And sustainability really is the name of the game here as they're calling it a "circular-economy community food market". That's mainly shown by the urban farm on the rooftop, as well as an anaerobic digester, which will convert organic waste into energy, heating and compost for the rooftop urban farm. And all the stalls will be focusing on zero waste policies (there will be guidelines for anyone involved)
As for the market, we know there will be seats for 600 people and space for 30 stalls. We can expect Mediterranean restaurants, Middle Eastern grills, pan-Asian food and low-packaging grocery stores. And on top of that, a German craft brewery who will be brewing beer and producing mineral water on-site - with a "proprietary water distillation and mineralisation technology".
That's all we know for the moment - we'll update as soon as we have more news.
