Kutir's Rohit Ghai opens KoolCha restaurant at Boxpark Wembley

Koolcha Wembley by Rohit Ghai

Updated 5/2/19 with full info

What: Koolcha

In a nutshell: Rohit Ghai goes casual in Wembley

Summing it all up: Rohit Ghai has had success with his upmarket Indian restaurant Kutir in Chelsea, and this restaurant makes something of a departure from him. This time he's opening a casual restaurant in Boxpark Wembley - it's the only sit-down restaurant there - with kulchas and lots more on the menu.

The low-down

Ex-Gymkhana and Jamavar chef Rohit Ghai's been keeping himself VERY busy recently. Not only has he just launched Kutir, but he's about to open the only sit-down restaurant at Boxpark Wembley, called KoolCha (together with his Kutir business partner Abhishake Sangwan). When we first heard about the venture, we assumed it would be a grab and go concept - but it turns out to be much more than that.

The restaurant will actually have seating for 60 (including the cocktail bar) - making this Ghai's second restaurant opening in a couple of months and his first foray into something that's more of a casual affair. The name's a play on the North Indian “Kulcha” flatbreads - and while they're a staple of the menu, there's a lot more besides.

Here's what's planned for the menu:

  • Masala prawns (£8),
  • Lamb / Vegetable biryanis (£12 - £14)
  • Paneer tikka masala grilled sandwich (£8)
  • Lamb khurchan slider (£8).
  • Koolcha Meals (from £7) which include pickles and salad
  • Combo Meals (from £10) which come with a kulcha, pickle, raita, pulao and salad.

There are cocktails too, including the Appu (meaning elephant) which is mandarin infused Ketel One, lemon sherbet, amaro Montenegro and ginger beer (£6.50). Plus beers and Rohit’s signature Masala Chai (£2.5).

Here's what Ghai has to say about the new opening:

It’s exciting to be able to adapt my food and play around with a more casual offering. I love fine dining, and that will always be important to me but I’m enjoying the freedom of this new brand and menu and looking forward to serving relaxed, regularly changing street food dishes at Koolcha.
