In a nutshell: Rotisserie chicken is the latest restaurant to open in Camden Market's North Yard
Summing it all up: Joining the arrival of The Camden Grocer and Camden Town Roadkill in Camden Market is this new rotisserie chicken restaurant with an executive chef who arrives here via Harrods.
The low-down
It's starting to feel like every week we have a new food story for you from Camden. The latest is the opening of a new rotisserie dine in and take out restaurant Kuku Riku. It's in the North Yard which has recently seen the opening of The Camden Grocer and Camden Town Roadkill.
Seems there's a dynamic duo behind the food side of things at Camden Market and both of them hail from Harrods. The market's new Commercial Director is Maggie Milosavljevic (former Operations Manager, Harrods) and she's brought in Executive Chef, Alistair Dibbs (former Executive Sous Chef, Harrods but who's also worked at Pied à Terre, Hibiscus and Le Manoir Aux Quat’Seasons.
As for Kuku Riku - this restaurant is all about rotisserie chicken. There's a massive Josper oven centre stage which roasts the chickens which are freshly basted and marinated daily in the 'secret marinade' before being served whole for take away or by the half or quarter to eat in (there's room for 70 to eat in).
On the menu there's:
- 24 hour marinated rotisserie baby chicken
- buttermilk chicken breast burger in a brioche bap with garlic mayonnaise
- buttermilk marinated chicken wings, glazed with sriracha, honey and soy.
And they've also got a range of decent sounding sides like smoked sea salt and thyme roasted Hasselback potatoes as well as a lemon, cumin and caper charred cauliflower and ‘roasted winter squash with salsa verde.
"We’re establishing the North Yard as a fine food destination," says Alistair. Yes, it's all a far cry from the Camden Market of Bob Marley T-shirts, dream catchers and joss sticks.
