What: Eggslut
In a nutshell: Eggs in buns from the USA
Summing it all up: Eggslut are VERY popular in various West Coast of the USA incarnations and now they're opening in London on Portobello Road. Expect a variety of eggs in buns all day long.
The low-down
US import alert - another very popular food emporium is making its way across the ocean - this time it's the turn of LA's Eggslut.
If you haven't come across the charmingly-named restaurant before - here's what you need to know. It is, as you can imagine, all about eggs ("cage-free" eggs to be precice). They are primarily of the eggs-in-buns type, but there are the odd coddled eggs too. Here's a taste of what's on the menu in LA:
- Bacon, egg and cheese - hardwood smoked bacon, cage-free over medium egg, cheddar cheese and chipotle ketchup in a warm brioche bun
- Gaucho - seared wagyu tri-tip steak, cage-free over medium egg, chimichurri, red onions and dressed arugula in a warm brioche bun
- Fairfax - cage-free soft scrambled eggs and chives, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions and sriracha mayo in a warm brioche bun
- Slut - cage-free coddled egg on top of a smooth potato purée, poached in a glass jar, topped with grey salt and chives, served with slices of baguette
On top of those - expect something that's unique to London too. They're also making a commitment to using local suppliers - so that means Clarence Court will provide the eggs, Bread Ahead will make the buns and Nude coffee roasters will supply their coffee.
It's an all day thing - and very much a fast-food concept (although they do have a sit-down counter service approach). Long queues are a thing in the USA branches, so expect to see them in London too.
That London branch is on Portobello Road (where Pix Pintxos used to be).
