What: FAM Bar
In a nutshell: The Mayfair bar where everyone knows your name
Summing it all up: This new Duke Street spot hopes to be so welcoming that you view it as a sort of home from home (with better cocktails and food than you'd make yourself).
The low-down
If you judge a drinking hole by the team behind it, then new Mayfair spot should be high on your list to try. FAM is a bar and kitchen just about to open on Duke Street and there's a whole bunch of talented folk responsible for its laid-back vibe.
Running the drinks side of things are Megs Miller and Dré Masso and helping everything along is Eric Yu from The Breakfast Group (The Social and 68 and Boston) and Martin Malley co-owner of Planet of the Grapes. They've taken over the space previously held by Bar Termini Centrale, which we hadn't even realised had closed.
The bar seats 50 inside (and 20 on a small terrace outside) and will serve up locally sourced and rescued ingredients and materials. Examples include the Sir Duke made with locally-sourced London vodka, kiwiberries, nettle cordial, Bloomsbury pastis & house citrus and the no alcohol Seedlip Grove 42 blended with house citrus, a dash of sherry vinegar and topped with soda.
Running the food side of things is Tim Ross-Watson (ex-The Goring and Restaurant Gordon Ramsay) whose bar snacks menu includes mini cuppa soup made with butternut squash, roasted garlic & white truffle oil with buttered milk-bread soldiers and Dingly Dell ham & cheese toasties on homemade bread with tomato compote.
If you want to hunker down for the night, you might want to peruse the bar's ‘good time’ wall and make your own selection from their collection of vinyl records.
