Summing it all up: Expect a holy trinity of beef, food and live music at this American beer company's first UK brewpub which has landed on Shoreditch High Street.
The low-down
Although they're not officially opening until 21 November, Goose Island Beer Company's Shoreditch Brewpub has actually been serving customers for the past couple of weeks.
The Chicago craft beer brand (which is owned by beer giant Anheuser-Busch) has opened its first UK brewpub, where The Drunken Monkey used to be, on Shoreditch High Street. It'll serve up all manner of beer, food and live music in what they're describing as "a super rad venue".
On the food front, we haven't seen an actual menu, but you can expect Chicago-inspired pub food like pizzas, subs, wings and pretzel bites with beer cheese sauce to match. Pizzas will include a pizza version of an Italian beef sandwich with slow cooked and barbecued brisket, giardiniera and chopped pepper. There's also going to be a baby clam white pizza with loads of garlic and the Chicago Hot Dog looks good featuring Kosher beef sausage, pickle, sport pepper, tomato, green relish, white onion, American mustard and celery salt but no ketchup.
Beers will include certain Goose Island brews you previously couldn't get here in the UK like Old Man Grumpy (5.8% ABV), Fog Bowl (7.2%) and Next Coast (7.2% ABV), and they'll also be doing collaborations with local London beers.
The company's brewmaster, Andrew Walton, said:
“I’ve been working on some crazy delicious microbrews that’ll be available exclusively at our Shoreditch Brewpub. I know London has always held a special place in Goose Island’s history, and I can’t wait for us to make our mark on British beer culture.”
