What: BIff’s Jack Shack
In a nutshell: Jackfruit-based vegan fast food
Summing it all up: Summing it all up: A permanent set up for Biff’s Jack Shack at Boxpark Shoreditch, with a range of deep-fried jackfruit burgers, wings and sides.
The low-down
Having won plenty of accolades for its vegan jackfruit burgers at KERB markets and pop-ups over the past couple of years, Biff’s Jack Shack has now opened up at Boxpark Shoreditch. Taking over the space vacated by another popular vegan chef, Cook Daily, Biff’s is definitely on the ‘junk food’ end of the vegan spectrum, with plenty of dishes making their way through the deep fryer.
Jackfruit is, of course, the main focus of the menu and can be found in pun-tactic burgers such as The Father Jack’, and ‘The Samuel Hell Jackson’, which is topped with maple chipotle hot sauce. There’s a brand new burger just for Boxpark too, called the ‘Jack Bauer Tower of Power’, a double jackfruit patty with deep fried vegan cheese, potato rosti, bacun jam, vegan aioli, served in a toasted brioche bun.
Elsewhere on the menu we particularly like the sound of the vegan poutine – London’s first apparently – which features fries topped with vegan cheese curds, porcini mushroom, seitan bacon, and gravy. There’s also a range of ‘wings’; a jackfruit chilli bowl; hush puppies (crispy cornbread served with whipped maple butter); and desserts such as the Mug Cake Bar. Brunch burgers will also be available on the weekends.
We also like Biff’s commitment to the environment – all packaging is fully compostable and recyclable and there are no single-use plastic drinks on the menu. Plus, all customers that bring in their own suitable food containers will receive a 50p discount from their order.
