Polpetto gets a new chef, look, menu - well everything really

Polpetto (from the same stable as the Polpo family) has been given a new lease of life with a redesign, a new chef at the helm and a new menu and wine list to boot too.

It sounds like the space has had a total revamp, with an entirely new layout, styling and design. Booths will run along the walls and we’ve been told there'll be better spacing with larger tables, which will come in hand for the new menus which are designed for sharing and feasting. The chefs table downstairs will also see a makeover with the 16 seats getting to see the action in real time in the open kitchen.

Anthea Stephenson from The River Café is now heading up the team - her CV also includes Jugged Hare, Sketch, The Ledbury and Locatelli so she knows her onions.

Always the more experimental of the restaurant group, Anthea’s seasonal menu will be regional Italian cooking and she will be bringing in new suppliers such as Farmison & Co for meat & game, Elias for fish & seafood and Vallebona for Italian cheeses.

We got to see a sneak peek at what’s to come, and it’s sounding pretty promising. New dishes include ox tongue, salsa verde and pine nuts, red mullet carpaccio, shaved fennel and chilli, venetian rib chop, marrow, borlotti and cicoria.

If you can fit desert in after all that then saffron panna cotta or warm chocolate tart, sea salt and mascarpone may well just tick that box.

The wine list will feature biodynamic, low-intervention and natural wines as well as offer the classic Polpetto cocktail list.
