What: Alphabet
In a nutshell: The Soho favourite returns in Islington
Summing it all up: It's been closed in Soho for five years, but now Alphabet bar is on the way back to London. This time it's setting up shop in Islington matching cocktails with a Mediterranean menu.
The low-down
Yes, Alphabet bar is back. The bar was a Soho institution for 15 years until it closed five year ago - but it's now being revived in a brand new spot, Islington's Upper Street.
It's taken over the large space that used to hold Cabana, which means they've got a pretty large space, fitting in 150 people. Food-wise, we're promised "Mediterranean inspired sharing plates, hand-pressed flatbreads and tabletop tagines". That's put together by Head Chef, Yaz Khadiri with dishes that include "chicken wings served with saffron and preserved lemons" and "marinated lamb kebabs with harissa yoghurt".
And there will be plenty of cocktails too, of course. We're told to expect "26 minimal-ingredient, meticulously made classics" from Chris Edwards, who comes via "Salts of the Earth", the people behind Shrub and Shutter in Brixton and First Aid Box in Herne Hill.
