What: Buffalo
In a nutshell: Plant-based Brick Lane diner
Summing it all up: London's booming veggie and vegan scene throws up another East End opening as Buffalo diner offers a casual, entirely plant-based dining experience.
The low-down
London's veggie and vegan scene is booming, and the arrival of new East London restaurant Buffalo hopes to take a slice of the plant-based pie. In a sign of the times, the casual diner has taken over from Halal Fried Chicken on Brick Lane. It'll mainly serve burgers and other fastish fare and features Brazilian chef Ludmilla Girardi in the kitchen who was previously at another vegan restaurant, Nico's Kitchen, in St Leonards.
On the menu you'll find dishes including:
- The Classic Buffalo - Tempeh, red kidney bean, beetroot and walnut patty served with gherkins, beef tomato & salad garnish with house buffalo sauce
- The Brick Lane Korma - jackfruit curry with vermicelli noodle
- Pasta Carbonara - spaghetti with creamy sauce and smoked-glazed tofu bites topped with grated vegan cheese
Sides include the de rigueur sweet potato fries and the rather nice sounding buffalo cauliflower.
