Summing it all up: There's another new Caravan on the way - this time on Great Portland Street. Expect coffee and brunch aplenty.
The low-down
We've known since last summer that Caravan's next big opening was on Great Portland Street - taking over a big part of Yalding House, which used to be the old BBC Radio 1 recording studios. Now we've had the full debrief on what to expect when it opens this summer.
To begin with, it's less of a Caravan and more of a mixed bag - so while there will be an all day restaurant and cafe here, they're also going to be showcasing their Caravan To Go brand and there'll be a huge bar and a private dining room and party space.
Down in the basement, there'll be an all round private dining and party space called the Record Room.Book this and you'll get a dedicated bartender and a sideboard of treats.
On the ground floor there'll be three dining rooms and a large bar that runs through all three of those. Dishes you'll find here might include:
- Green falafel, pickled and grilled Cauliflower, radish, garlic sesame, chilli
- Purple kale, rye berries, lemon, ricotta, pine nuts
- Chargrilled lamb cutlets, Kerelan green sauce
- Crispy duck, taramind caramel, celery, shallots, cucumber, coriander
What's perhaps more exciting though is that the ground floor will also be home to Caravan-To-Go’. This is where you'll be able to choose from a weekly changing series of patisserie or grab a sarnie or salad to eat back in the office. And that menu sounds particularly good with dishes like Moroccan egg pita with drawn butter, dukkah, cress, pickled red onion and tahini and a Chicken and Rice bowl with poached chicken, sesame cucumber, fried onion, chilli oil, chicken tea, crispy chicken skin.
Caravan's breakfast and brunch offering has always been strong and on the To Go menu you're going to want to try the twice baked golden milk crème brulee croissant or kimchi and also tamarind and date morning buns. And if last night was particularly full-on then the breakfast bahn mi will have your name on it.
Other things of note here include a juice dispensing machine with rotating freshly made, healthy drinks like charcoal lemonades or probiotic sodas.

When does it open? 16 July 2018. The soft launch runs from Monday 16 July through to Wednesday 18 July with 50% off on all food. At the same time, they'll also be offering Caravan-To-Go at 50% off between 8am – 4pm. It'll be walk-ins only, so no booking.
