South London Willy Wonkas Bompas & Parr are at it again, this time with a seasonal ice-cream exhibition in King’s Cross that celebrates the dessert - with more than a few immersive installations.
SCOOP: The Wonderful World of Ice Cream will be settling in for a summer residency at Gasholders London in King’s Cross. Inside, you’ll be able to marvel at all kinds of ice-cream ephemera as you soak up the history and science of the dessert, plus art, music and vintage equipment, and something called ‘ice-cream weather’.
But, far more excitingly than all that is the fact you’ll get to try some of B&P’s weird and truly wonderful concoctions via ‘sensory immersions’. We’ve been promised glow-in-the-dark ice cream, and an ‘immersive vanilla fog’ that we’re imagining will be a similarly aromatic (if less boozy) experience to their vapourised G&Ts.
Plus, they'll also be recreating historical flavours whipped up from the archives of Agnes B. Marshal, the Victorian era’s grand maven of ice-cream who was fond of liquid nitrogen - so we’re keen to see B&P come up with. If that’s all not enough, you can head into the SCOOP cafe for more experimental creams.
SCOOP is the inaugural exhibition at Bombas & Parr’s British Museum of Food, and tickets to the event will £12 when booked in advance at www.bmof.org.
When: 3 July - 30 September
Where: Gasholders, 1 Lewis Cubitt Walk, Kings Cross, London N1C 4BX
