By now, Clapham craft boozer The King & Co must surely have one of the London’s most frequently changing kitchen rosters, having just announced yet another residency. This time it’s Malt + Pepper, who’ll be taking the reins for a slightly longer pop-up spanning three months, themed all around everyone’s favourite summer tipple, beer.
Malt + Pepper want to focus on beer as an ingredient, rather than a drink. In practice, this means braised pork belly with smoked porter apple puree, or dirty fries with stout gravy, stout-candied bacon and ‘beer cheese’ sauce. There’ll also be cauliflower popcorn with lager hot sauce and chicken wings with lambic BBQ sauce, and burgers, stuffed with double patties and doused in the aforementioned beer cheese.
Sundays will see a similarly beer-soaked roast lunch. And for afters, if you’re still craving those oh-so-hoppy flavours, there’s a spent grain brownie served with stout whipped cream.
