Summing it all up: Chucs have chosen the Serpentine Sacker Galleries to open their fourth all day restaurant and this one will be the first to offer takeaway too - perfect for park picnics.
The low-down
The striking restaurant space inside Zaha Hadid’s Serpentine Sackler Gallery extension is changing hands. Having been The Magazine since it first opened, it'll soon be serving up Mediterranean fare under its new Chucs identity.
This is the fourth opening for Chucs which only recently opened the doors to its restaurant at Harrods. But the new Kensington Gardens branch will have a number of things it does differently to other restaurants in the group. Key to that is that it'll be the only Chucs to offer a takeaway menu, so you can buy a selection of paninis including Spicy Italian and various types of Pizzette, homemade ice creams, and Tiramisu to have out in the park.
Other new dishes in the 86-seater restaurant, created by Group Head Chef Carlos Martinez and Executive Chef Alessandro Verdenelli, include Pastarelle fritti, macadamia and dried fruit salsa for breakfast and Pea & mint risotto with Reggiano and micro watercress or green harissa lamb rump, mint gel and cucumber for lunch.
The three course set menu at £25 will make this a decent spot for anyone wanting to dine in this part of town on a relative budget, and given the park's family focus there'll also be a special children’s breakfast and children's all day menu.
