Plates in Shoreditch is a one night a week plant-based restaurant that should be on your radar

What: Plates

In a nutshell: Plant-based Shoreditch food with a fine dining background

Summing it all up: Sibling team Kirt and Keeley Haworth - their dad is Northcote's Nigel Haworth - are bringing plant-based fine dining to the Shoreditch scene, opening once a week to the public.

The low-down

Plant-based eating out just took a huge leap forward with the opening up of Plates in Shoreditch. Very much a family affair, this catering company/dining room is run by sibling team of Head Chef Kirk Haworth (The French Laundry, The Square & Northcote) and his sister Keeley (Plates artistic director and partner of award-winning creative studio Studio La Plage). If the name rings a bell it should - their dad is Nigel Haworth of the Michelin-starred Lancashire restaurant and hotel Northcote.

Describing their food as "using only plant based natural ingredients, we focus on organic vegetables & fruits; and wild herbs in both the creation of our food and drinks menus" Kirt and Keeley's business in the main is as a caterer for private dinners and events. But once a week they open their dining room to the public and word is already getting out about the food.

"I don't think there is anyone else cooking vegan food in London with that kind of pedigree behind them," said former Chiltern Firehouse Head Chef Patrick Powell in a recent Instagram post, "And it is really delicious."

Dinners, which are entirely without meat, fish, dairy or refined sugar occur every Saturday with the five course meal costing £40 but they're already booking out.

A sample menu might feature:

  • Plates signature Slammer
  • Beetroot tartare, fennel pollen, avocado, fermented berries
  • Shiitake broth, kombu, sea herbs
  • Butterbean Humous & charred house breads
  • Fragrant carrot curry, yuzu, coriander
  • Organic coconut yogurt, cocoa, sour apple & meadowsweet
  • Plates fruity tea
