What: 31 Below
In a nutshell: All day Med-themed dining and drinking
Summing it all up: Marylebone’s new spot is a cafe by day, bar by night, and comes with a sunshine-soaked Mediterranean-themed menu, plus an indoor garden for you to enjoy.
The low-down
Marylebone is about to be the site of another friendly neighbourhood cafe (in addition to Butterscotch), this time by the name of 31 Below, which will have all the Grind coffee, pastries and sunny Med-inspired cuisine to see you through the tail end of winter, with a little extra help from their indoor garden. But come the evening, and the action will head downstairs to a buzzy basement bar.
Food on offer will be broadly Med/Spanish-themed, so expect salted Padrón peppers, patatas bravas and plenty of grilled meat, plus a hefty sharers menu with plenty of nibbles to go with your Negronis.
Other plates include:
- Buttermilk fried chicken, chilli mayo & lime
- Aubergine, flatbread, pomegranate & tahini
- Devilled eggs, mayonnaise, sriracha & chives
- Fritto misto, lemon, chilli & aïoli
- Large king prawns, garlic, chilli, lemon & parsley
Brunch sees plenty of favourites, like a chorizo hash and smashed avo on toast sitting alongside cold-pressed juices, detox shots and ‘Leches', like their Vanilla with almonds, rice, dates, vanilla bean, sunflower oil and pink Himalayan salt.
We’ve also got our eye on their ‘pudding sharer’, which you can order with a friend enabling you both to sample not one but three of their desserts. In this case, it’s Catalan cream, a sticky toffee pudding, and one of their hot chocolate pots. Which is such a good idea that it begs the question, why don’t more places do this?
