On every New York trip that we've ever been on, there's one place that we always make sure we pop into at least once, and that's Dean and Deluca, particularly the one in Soho. It's one of the city's best-known deli/food markets, serving everything from freshly ground coffee, chocolate, juices, with an amazing array of breads, pastries, salads and more. So we were happy to read in the Standard that they were opening in London, taking the space left by Allens of Mayfair (yes, that IS a slightly bittersweet moment), right opposite the Connaught.
Back at the beginning of 2017 a spokesperson told Hot Dinners; "The brand will open a neighbourhood Market Store and Café at 117 Mount Street, arranged across 1,900 sq ft and will also include a standalone butchers at the rear of the Mews Building.".
But we have bad news. Having spoken to a representative for Grosvenor Britain & Ireland today it's clear that the grand plans for Mayfair have been put on ice.
"Dean & Deluca has decided not to open a store in the UK," they told Hot Dinners. "Following the appointment of its new global President, Dean & Deluca has shifted its store opening strategy and while it will maintain brand presence in the UK, it will focus on US openings in the short term."
So what does this mean for the Mount Street site? Well, as Grosvenor explained: "We are working to secure, ideally, a food-led tenant for all to enjoy as soon as possible."
