What: The Good Egg
In a nutshell: Popular Stokie brunch spot heads up West
Summing it all up: Expect great brunches and a whole lot of babka as the boys behind N16's Israeli/Canadian cafe expand to the melting pot of Kingly Court
The low-down
Carnaby's Kingly Court continues to grow as a foodie hub with news that popular Stokie brunch spot The Good Egg is the next place to open there. This will be the second restaurant for the Israeli/Canadian cafe that's going down a storm on Stoke Newington Church Street.
And the menu sounds AMAZING (apologies if you haven't eaten before reading on) - slow braised Hanukah-style brisket hash served up with home-fries, Russian dressing, pickles and topped with a fried egg; a Challah French toast sandwich with white peach jam, candied pecans and crème fraiche and there'll also be Sabih – an Iraqi aubergine pita with tahini, mango amba, dakdak, pickles and zhoug on offer.
If you're in the area and just want to grab and go, the takeaway menu will include their freshly baked challah, hand-rolled bagels and babka, along with flatbreads, hearty sandwiches and Middle Eastern salads. But if you're more in the mood for a late night, the Tel Aviv-inspired cocktail list sounds worth a go - particularly the Espresso Martini with house cardamom syrup and green pistachio.
