Ever dreamt of dining in a medieval East End church? Soon, you’ll be able to do just that when St Bartholomew-the-Great, a beautiful parish that’s been standing in Smithfield for over 800 years, temporarily hosts neighbouring restaurant Club Gascon.
The pop-up will be called Cloister by Club Gascon, and will run for the duration of the restaurant’s refurb. Until then, you'll be able to tuck into their four-course menu - which should be excellent, as they’ve had a Michelin star since 2002 - while seated in the incredibly atmospheric cloisters of the church, famed for their intricate decorations.
There’ll be classic dishes fans will recognise like Aromatic King Scallop with Spicy Berries, and Peppered Braised Beef Rib with Oceanic Tapioca & Samphire, plus a separate menu for vegetarians.
Four courses will be available for £80, with a wine flight for £40. Or, if being in the presence of so much piety makes you reluctant to get too merry, there’s the alternative, more virtuous option of a tea pairing for £15 instead.
Club Gascon will reopen the doors of its restaurant on West Smithfield street this autumn.
