What: Tombo
In a nutshell: Japanese-style poke, rice and matcha green tea.
Summing it all up: Select from Tombo’s classic options or build-your-own poké bowl at their newest venue in Fitzrovia, and indulge in a matcha green tea sundae.
The low-down
After a successful run of openings in South Ken and Soho, poke restaurant and matcha bar Tombo will open their third restaurant on Fitzrovia’s Windmill Street.
From their menu of sushi-style fish and rice bowls (if you’re not yet familiar with the poke craze, think sushi via the Pacific, and in Tombo’s case, back via Japan again) you can pick from several familiar choices.
There’s the Classic Poke with salmon or tuna with sesame soy and nori, the Terriayki Chicken, the Salmon Avocado Lux with wasabi soy and salmon roe and the Spicy Mayo Prawn with sriracha mayo, crispy shallots and shichimi chilli .
If none of the predesigned bowls appeal, you’ll also be able to build-your-own with whichever base, main, topping and sauce you fancy.
While you’re there, you can pick up a cup of bright green, antioxidant-rich matcha tea from their special bar, where it’s made up whisked in the traditional Japanese style, or skip the healthy part and go straight to the matcha ice cream sundae or matcha tart.
