What: Bistro Vadouvan
In a nutshell: French dishes with a Middle Eastern and Asian twist in Putney Wharf.
Summing it all up: The owners of Hammersmith institution Potli have made the jump south west, to try their hand at French-Asian fusion - think spiced bouillabaisse, duck leg pot au pho and Middle Eastern-spiced beef tartare.
The low-down
Putney Wharf is the home to a newly opened French-Asian fusion restaurant, Bistro Vadouvan, from the people behind Potli in Hammersmith.
The new restaurant will be dishing up a careful blend of traditional French cuisine seasoned with Middle Eastern and Asian spices, with two special clay ovens for barbecue orders - a bit of a departure from Potli’s traditional Indian food. Instead, Bistro Vadouvan will be aiming to balance classic French cooking with lighter flavours, so it's less butter and oil, and more pepper and seasonings.
There are lots of creative dishes to choose from, like:
- Spiced Bouillabaisse Provençal
- Middle Eastern Beef Tartare with Smoked Aubergine
- Sea Bass with Celeriac, Cauliflower & Raz el Hanout
- Duck Leg Asiatique “Pot au Pho“
- House specialty, the ‘Vadouvan’ Sausage & Mash
Overseeing the menu is chef-patron Durga Misra, who comes to Bistro Vadouvan with plenty of names under his belt (La Petite Maison, Brasserie Chavot) plush experience working with Eric Chavot, Joel Antunes and Pascal Proyart.
You’ll be able to enjoy it all in the sleek and modern surroundings of Putney Wharf, particularly if the weather’s nice, as there’s ample outside seating.
