A Hot Dinners exclusive
What: Salt + Pickle
In a nutshell: Preserved meat, fish and a tidy drinks list highlighting independent distributors.
Summing it all up: Preservation is the name of the game at the aptly named Salt + Pickle, a new locally-owned deli and bar who'll be serving up treacle-cured salmon, homemade pastrami, and providing beers from local breweries just up the road to wash it all down.
The low-down
Crystal Palace, tucked all the way down south in zone 4, is about to get a brand new locally-owned neighbourhood deli and bistro by the name of Salt + Pickle, and they're all about preserved produce.
The deli is set to be a celebration of all things cured, pickled and smoked, highlighting preserving techniques while working in collaboration with local suppliers. And some of it sounds very good indeed, like their treacle-cured salmon or homemade pastrami.
There'll be enough to seat 30 diners, plus a bar as well which will highlight small wine producers, and local craft breweries. There'll even be beers from Gipsy Hill Brewery just down the road, serving until 10pm every night - an ideal, if not essential, accompaniment to wash down all the salty treats on offer.
Salt + Pickle is the brainchild of two south-east London locals, Manish Utton-Mishra, who also runs the Good Taste Deli, and designer Ian Haigh.
