What: Yolk
In a nutshell: Takeaway baguettes and Egg Benedicts to-go from Yolk
Summing it all up: Former pop-up Yolk’s bringing takeaway lunch to the next level with very, very fine baguettes with fillings like duck and steak, while those grabbing something on their way to work can get Eggs Benedict to go.
The low-down
Frustrated by the same boring takeaway baguettes and salads? Yolk hears you. Former pop-up kings, they're now going permanent in the City. The breakfast and lunch vendor will now be able providing hungry City workers from their new permanent home in Finsbury Avenue Square. The menu will be takeaway, short, and very sweet - poached eggs for breakfast, and fantastic-sounding sandwiches for lunch.
Those on their way in will be able to grab eggs Benedict to go, served with pulled 24-hour ham hock, hollandaise and cayenne, to the envy of everyone else in their office. Or if it’s later in the day, then the sandwiches come out. There’ll be the Steak Bearnaise sandwich, which sounds very good indeed - medium rare bavette steak, with brown butter bearnaise, caramelised onions and rocket on ciabatta. Or you can go for the Umami Chicken sandwich, with pickled daikon and Yolk’s secret hot sauce, the confit Duck Bun with applewood-smoked aioli and duck skin crackling (!).
Lots of attention will be given to the coffee too, with some of London’s best roasters being called in on rotation. You can expect to see names like Dark Arts, Workshop and Square Mile.
We reckon this, and all of the above, should be just about all the ingredients one needs for a perfect storm of lunchtime or breakfast envy from your coworkers.
