Lorne Restaurant is coming to Victoria

Lorne Restaurant is coming to Victoria

What: Lorne

In a nutshell: Wine and seasonal food in Victoria

Summing it all up: This restaurant in Victoria has an ex-sommelier from River Cafe and a chef from Brawn, so expect a particularly good wine list and a seasonal menu to match with it.

The low-down

What do you get when you cross the sommelier from River Cafe and Chez Bruce, with the chef from Brawn and three Michelin-starred Benu? A new place to be fed and watered by the name of Lorne Restaurant, which’ll have a wine list that’s as well kept as the menu.

Chef Peter Hall and sommelier Katie Exton, who met while both working at The Square, will aim to make the wine and the food both of equal importance at Lorne, which means there’s no doubt that there’ll be plenty of excellent drink pairings for diners to try with their meal.

Cuisine will be modern British style, with lots of seasonal produce and an emphasis on using trusted suppliers. Some example dishes include:

  • Mackerel, Pickled Cucumber, Ratte Potatoes, Nasturtium, £11
  • Quail, Butternut Squash, Barley, Mountain Yam, £12
  • Guinea Fowl, haggis, mushroom, calcot - £21
  • Brill, Sourdough, Baby Gem, Sea Vegetables, Dashi £24
  • Short Rib Beef, Onion, Pears, Cavolo Nero, £22
  • Yorkshire curd tart, builders' tea ice cream - £7
  • Rhubarb, vanilla custard, gingerbread, pistachio - £8

Meanwhile, wine will be brought in from all over the world and offered to diners at reasonable, more approachable prices. There’ll also be a seasonally changing cocktail list, London beers, Monmouth Coffee and Rare Tea Company Tea.
