Yes, there's a tube strike. And yes, it's raining too. But rather than let yourself be bogged down in general commuter misery, you could instead look at this as a great opportunity to get into a restaurant that has previously required serious planning if you were ever hoping of getting a table. And that restaurant with the mile-long walk-ins only queue? it should be much more manageable during the strike.
So rather than join the rest of humanity in the queue for a bus this evening, stay in town a bit and let the hordes disperse whilst enjoying an amazing meal instead.
Restaurants you can book
Luca - this new Britalian restaurant by the Clove Club has been chocka since it opened, but tonight there were plenty of slots left on their Tock Tix booking system
Dinner by Heston - looking at Open Table, this Knightsbridge spot just had slots at 6pm and 9.30pm, but when we called we were offered our choice, 7.30pm.
The Wolseley is always hard to get into, but on a Strike Day tables free all evening
Smokestak and Temper - both very popular spots, but today they have tables available all evening
Walk-ins worth trying
Top of our list would be Bao, Breddo's or Hoppers with potential for the new Barrafina on Dean Street. There's also The Palomar and sister restaurant The Barbary to try. And, if you're anywhere near London Bridge why not try Padella or El Pastor tonight?
