Big news today from the Jumeirah Carlton Tower in Knightsbridge. They've just announced that they'll be partnering with Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge. Kerridge will open a restaurant in the space currently occupied by The Rib Room in 2017.
We don't have too many details at the moment. What we do know is that The Rib Room Bar and Restaurant will close its doors early in 2017. When it reopens, after a full-scale renovation it'll be Kerridge's first London restaurant. "“We are thrilled and honoured to be opening in London at this landmark location in Knightsbridge," Tom said in a press release issued today, "and we will be revealing more details on our plans early next year.”
It's a huge departure for the hotel - the Rib Room has been an SW1 classic since it opened back in 1961. Back then when it opened the idea was to wow the London restaurant-going public. "The concept is unique,” observed the Catering Times in 1977. “Seven-bone ribs of beef, butchered American-style. And the object is to serve the best beef in London.”
