Every year, York and Albany in Camden can be relied on doing something pretty special for Christmas, and this year is no different. York and Albany is transforming its courtyard into a storybook wonderland in the run up to winter, complete with no less than a gingerbread cabin. They’ll be serving savoury snacks, afternoon tea and cocktails, with the majority all heavily featuring the festive spice.
If you’re not quite ready to jump in at the sugary deep end, you’ll be able to build up to it with some seasonal savoury snacks, including venison croquettes, butternut squash, a ‘gingerbread man’ crouton, and crab and avocado salad.
After that, things get a whole lot sweeter. The gingery afternoon tea menu will provide stem ginger and cranberry scones with clotted cream, a selection of finger sandwiches, gingerbread macarons, parkin, crème brûlée and (unsurprisingly) gingerbread men. You’ll be able to wash it down with a glass of prosecco or a selection of loose leaf teas.
Or you can try the sweet canape menu, which will have more parkin and gingerbread men, plus a winter fruit crumble and the chance to decorate your own giant gingerbread man, if you book in advance.
On the cocktail front, mixologists from The York & Albany have created a special winter menu, and it’s no surprise that it too comes heavy on the ginger. The Gingerbread Espresso comes with infused Grey Goose L’Orange, Amaretto and Kahlua, plus there’ll be hot toddies to wrap your frosty hands around.
The York & Albany Gingerbread Cabin is at 127-129 Parkway, Camden, NW1 7PS and runs until 28 Feb. It’ll be available by private hire only, for four to 12 people. Slots are open from 1-3pm, 3-5pm, 6-8pm and 8-10pm. Follow The York and Albany on Twitter @yorkandalbany.
