We do like the sound of the new Sunday special at Shoreditch's Oklava. Chef Selin Kiazim is putting on a, frankly huge, feast that is rounded off by some special kebabs. Apparently, the Kebab, or ‘kebap’, is something that Selin always did with her family on Sundays. And its inspiration is drawn directly from childhood holidays in Cyprus, where her family would all get round the table and enjoy this spread, which certainly sounds the business:
Starting with a selection of cold meze (served with flat breads)
- Hummus
- Whipped Feta
- Tarama
- Muhammara
- Çacik
- Marinated aubergine
Continuing with hot meze
- Fried börek (e.g. Hellim, spinach and feta etc)
- Courgette Fritters
- Grilled Hellim
- Grilled Cypriot Pastirma sausage
And finishing up with kebabs (served with mixed seasonal salad, pickled red cabbage & Cyprus potato chips)
- Şeftali
- Lamb Döner
- Lamb Cutlet
- Chicken shish with yoghurt and spices
- Chicken Wings
And all that is only £25 per person! It kicks off this Sunday (16 October 2016) and you can book online. Oklava is at 74 Luke St, London EC2A 4PY. For more from Oklava, follow them on Twitter @OKLAVA_LDN.
