The food scene has never been more vibrant in Newington Green - now the tiny but popular tapas bar Trangallan, nestled inside a former shop on the edge of the green, is celebrating summer with a series of paella weekends. The traditional sharing dishes will be available every Saturday and Sunday between 12-4 - although you'll have to book in advance to make sure you get one.
The team have been experimenting with various recipes: during May there'll be a couple of classic versions on offer - the Arroz a banda, with fish stock, cuttlefish soffrito and prawns, and Paella Valenicana, with chicken, rabbit and seasonal vegetables.
Later next month they will be cooking up a vegetarian paella, and some combinations they've been experimenting with themselves, including octopus and turnip, or salt cod with Padron peppers. The Trangallan chefs are even promising what they call "the English one" - beef brisket, bone marrow, and parsley - which must be a first.
Until 12th June, it'll cost just £18 per person, including a glass of Alicante 2014 El Carro wine.
Trangallan is at 61 Newington Green, London N16 9PX. To book your paella - email mailto:alix@trangallan.com, call 02073 594 988 or book online.
