The latest restaurant to hit a slowly revitalising Shaftesbury Avenue is Talli Joe - something that's being modelled after Indian dive bars. With that in mind, they'll have a wide range of regional food on offer, backed up by Indian-inspired cocktails.
On the menu is:
- Rasam Poached Shrimp (fresh shrimp poached in a spicy South Indian tomato broth, tempered with curry leaves, garlic and coriander leaves)
- Sorpotel & Sanna (a Konkan delicacy of pork stewed in chilli, coconut and vinegar, served with a savoury rice cake)
- Patisapta (a Talli Joe take on a classic Bengali dessert of thin crepes, filled with coconut and jaggery, with a dash of rum).
As for those cocktails, they'll include the South Indian Gimlet (a classic Gimlet of gin and lime with a touch of turmeric) and the Cutting Chai (chilled Masala chai infused with vodka, lime and honey).
Talli Joe opens at 152-156 Shaftesbury Avenue, London WC2H 8HL on 26 April with a soft launch until 30 April if you sign up on their website. For more, follow them on Twitter @tallijoe
