When EVERYONE you know is raving about a particular supperclub, and you haven't been, you know it's time to get in the loop. We had heard a lot about Tata Eatery. They're regulars at Druid St and also did a hugely successful rice tasting menu collaborating with Matt Chatfield from The Cornwall Project last year at the Newman Arms.
Well Meng and Ana - along with sake sommelier Elyse Li are heading back to the Newman Arms for a Saturday residency in March. They'll be serving up an all day brunch menu and if what we tried on our test visit was anything to go by, it'll be a storming success.
The pair have worked at Viajante and Chiltern Firehouse and the food they're turning out is inventive and delicious. Their skate wing with yeast beurre blanc was inspired by their mentors there, Nuno Mendes and Leo Carreira. Congee is made with rich chicken stocks, and "topped with dough sticks, century egg green sauce and a sprinkle of chicken skn. An amazing dish of skate wing was apparently the first dish they came up with for their stall at Druid St and uses "ebi prawns, shiso leaves and flowers, preserved January King cabbage, tobiko, wasabi and prawn head oil.
Quite frankly it's all pretty amazing and you should sort out your booking before they're all snapped up.
