Opening today on Pall Mall is a new private members club devoted to wine. But despite its St James location, the club's aim is to focus on offering fine wine to its members without costing them an arm and a leg. The idea came from founder Grant Ashton deciding he was "fed up of being mugged by punitive London mark-ups on fine wine."
The club's Master Sommelier is Ronan Sayburn who counts Cafe du Vin, Gordon Ramsay Holdings and the Dorchester Collection as previous employers. He's put together a list of 5000 bottles, some 200 of which will be available by the glass.
Sayburn is joined by chef Marcus Verberne who comes here from Roast in Brough Market via Mark Hix and Caprice Holdings. The restaurant here will be open from breakfast, through to dinner lunch, dinner. Expect plenty of meat; "One of my main focuses will be on the quality of the beef, rotating different cuts and encouraging the members to share larger joints" says Verberne.
