30/11/15 - updated with soft launch info
Chef Brett Redman is set to open a new Japanese yakitori restaurant in Dalston. The restaurant, which opens this Autumn draws upon the rich tradition of Tokyo yakitori joints, bringing this hugely popular variety of Japanese street food to east London.
The new opening will specialise in Japanese yakitori skewers grilled over coal and will be the second opening from Redmond, who also opened The Richmond in Haggerston earlier this year. Redman has partnered with Australian native and first time restaurateur Natalie Lee-Joe. Both are lovers of Asian food and have travelled to Japan extensively over the last two years to gather both ideas and inspiration.
Open for both lunch and dinner, the 40 seat restaurant will offer diners a selection of yakitori skewers served alongside Japanese small plates and rice dishes. Jidori will source much of its produce from Nama Yasai, a Lewes-based Japanese agricultural specialist who will supply both vegetables and herbs. Poultry will come from Lancashire based Goosnargh farms.
Some of those skewers include:
- Wing, shiso and grilled lemon £4
- Aubergine and miso butter £3.50
- Parsons nose - £3
- Tsukune minced chicken and egg yolk - £4.50
Plus starters include:
- Spinach ohitashi - £ 4
- Crab and sweet corn croquettes, chilli mayonnaise - £5
- Mackerel sashimi, mandarin and young ginger ponzu - £8
Rounding the experience, the bar at Jidori will serve a short list of cocktails made from Japanese spirits and ingredients with a list of Japanese craft beers, whiskies and sake.
The restaurant, designed by Giles Reid, will seat 40 and is centred around an open kitchen complete with a custom made 'Kama-Asa Shoten’ grill as the centrepiece.
Jidori will open at 89 Kingsland High Street, London E8 2PB on 4 December. The soft launch is 50% off food on 4-5 December – dinner only. Opening times for Friday and Saturday dinner are 6pm - 12am, the kitchen will close at 11.30pm. The restaurant will not take reservations no reservations.
