You'd think a name like Pidgin would be pretty unique as far as restaurant names go, but as well as being a very popular Hackney restaurant, there's another Vancouver Pidgin that's also a big deal. And now they're getting together in Hackney for a one-off mash-up, Pidgin v Pidgin.
The night will see Vancouver's Chef Shin Suzuki and London's Chef Elizabeth both serving up food with an emphasis on seasonal local sourcing. However the styles of cooking are more diverse.
Vancouver dishes will have their signature Japanese twist - recent dishes include mushrooms with snap peas, yuzu brown butter, ramen egg and oyster shot. The UK side will have dishes like pig's head with morcilla and smoked apple and Dexter beef with bone marrow béarnaise, salsify, and spinach. The actual menu for the night is still being worked out - but that should give you an idea of what to expect.
Pidgin vs Pidgin is on 10 November at Pidgin, 52 Wilton Way, London E8 1BS. Tickets are £75 for a nine course dinner (so a bit bigger than your usual Pidgin Hackney meal) and that'll include drinks pairings too. To book, call 020 7254 8311, or email info@pidginlondon.com.
