There are going to be a lot of excited fans of José Pizarro today with the news that the Spanish chef is opening a new restaurant by Liverpool Street. This will be his third opening in London and the first for three years.
The eponymous José Pizarro (probably the most obvious next step after opening "Jose" and "Pizarro") is going to be one of the flagship restaurants in the new Broadgate Circle development, right by Liverpool Street station. Up on the first floor overlooking the ice-rink area, it'll have room for 65 diners and a large outdoor terrace.
Open all day, mornings will kick off with breakfast, served from 7 to 11am with dishes including grilled chorizo or jamón Ibérico with fried egg and patatas fritas or sobrasada on toast with honey and Mahón cheese.
"My food will be like nothing you’ve tasted before," boasts Jose. "I've drawn on my years of experience and added some stunning new ideas on the top."
In the raciones section there'll be:
- Broad Bean Stew with Jamón, Poached Egg and Mint Sauce
- Deep Fried Cuttlefish, Heritage Root Vegetables with Manchego
- Prawn Buñuelos (little light doughnuts) with Saffron Aïoli and Pimentón
We can't wait for the mains. He's promising...
- Ibérico pork cheeks from Extremadura with olive oil mash, pimenton and toasted almonds
- Home-cured cod with Seville oranges.
- Olive Oil Mash, Pimentón and Toasted Almonds
- Monkfish with Chorizo, Parsnip Purée & Celeriac
- Butterfly Grilled Mackerel.
And we like the sound of Chocolate Coulant with Olive oil, Salt and Toasted Bread for dessert.
Fans of the solomillo and presa found in his Bermondsey restaurants can rest assured that these cuts will make it to the City. And if you're meat-minded, how about the Basque country Txuletón a la Brasa? There'll also be charcuterie (of course) and for the first time a selection of premium tinned fish including sardines and ventresca. Plus we can expect a regularly changing menu of sharing joints and whole fish.
The drinks list will focus on Spanish wines, cava and beer - with the latter apparently "reflecting the Estrella Damm portfolio, offering a list only available to José Pizarro in the UK.".
“I am completely over the moon to be launching in the heart of the City," says Jose. "It’s my first foray into the Square Mile and whilst it’s nerve-wracking, I’m so excited too."
Soft launch booking details. Jose Pizarro will open with a 50% off (food only) on soft launch running on May 8th, 9th, 11th and 12th. The restaurant will then fully open on the 13th May.
