Aqua Nueva - the rooftop restaurant in the heart of the West End, is having a makeover: they're calling it 'New Nueva' - and promising a series of menu changes and events.
What's being planned?
The refit, by top-end restaurant designer Robert Angell, will involve some major structural changes - inspired, say the team, "by historic Spain and sun drenched streets", to create a more open-plan restaurant which looks through onto a separate bar. Furniture will be dark, burgundy hues, offset by pale marble walls and mosaic floors.
The jewel in Aqua Nueva's crown is, of course, its vast roof terraces; overlooking the architectural vistas of Regent Street and beyond. We can't imagine many venues which are better placed to enjoy London's dramatic skyline on a warm summer evening.
What's on the menu?
Head chef Alberto Hernandez, formerly of El Bulli, is making some changes to his modern Spanish menu to fit the current trend for small-plate dining. More than just tapas, it's meant to allow guests to choose exactly what they fancy, whether it's one dish with a glass of wine, or a more substantial meal to share with friends. You'll also be able to order food at the bar, with banquette seating if you don't want to perch on a stool.
Talking of the bar - manager Luca Missaglia is jazzing up the drinks menu with a range of gin and tonic cocktails involving Tanqueray Ten, alongside the more classic creations already on offer.
When's the grand re-opening?
There's no fixed date yet - but it's likely to be towards the middle of June. You can keep up with the latest information by following them @aqualondon on Twitter - or keeping an eye on their blog.
