Possibly the most glamorous yard sale is taking place next month when The Ivy sells its contents in a massive charity auction at Sotheby's. The restaurant, which is closed until May while it undergoes a total reburbishment, is putting all manner of iconic items and artworks into the sale.
Highlights include the restaurant's cocktail shakers, the top table complete with linen and table service (for you to recreate that Ivy look at home should you choose) not to mention numerous works of art. Fancy picking up a Peter Blake painting of Marilyn Monroe? The estimate is a cool £3,000-5,000. Or perhaps your taste runs to the lavatorial in which case you could bid for the sign for the Ladies (est. £100-150). You might even try to get the restaurant's famous front doors which are estimated at between £1k and £1500.
The sale, the proceeds of which will go to the charity Child Bereavement UK takes place on 25 March 2015 at Sotheby's London. "I thought it would be a good opportunity to offer people the chance to own some of its history," says owner Richard Caring, "I’ve often had people tell me that they wish they could buy some of our pieces and furniture and now they can."
