Keeping the trend in London set firmly towards Latin America - Death by Burrito is going to create quite a storm when it opens up in Shoreditch next month. Billed as a contemporary Mexican grill and cocktail bar, it's the brainchild of Shay Ola - who's behind the Rebel Dining Society.
Death by Burrito will be at Catch bar and the drinks are going to be a seriously important part of the experiences. Ola's got mixologist Ryan Chetiyawardana (formerly of Worship St Whistling Shop, Purl & 69 Colebrook Row) to come up with a Tequila Only cocktail list with Jose Cuervo Tradicional to go along with the street-food style menu. We're rather liking the sound of Pink Paloma with Jose Cuervo Tradicional, raspberries and Aperol charged with homemade vanilla salted grapefruit soda.
Food-wise there'll be a range of small and large plates and sides: expect Braised Pork Belly Burritos and Baja fish tacos or maybe the smoked beef short rib tacos served with deconstructed guacamole and blue corn chips. There's also Lobster Ceviche, grilled Octopus and Poblano crepes. Sides will include sweet Potato Strings and Drunken Beans.
Burritos and tacos will range in price from £10 to £12 with small plates from £5 to £7.
Death by Burrito is open now at Catch, 22 Kingsland Rd, Shoreditch, London E2 8DA from Wednesday to Saturday 5-10-pm. There's space for just 30 to eat so you'll probably need reservations which are on 020 7729 6097.
