As part of the run-up to this week's 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic - Saturday 14th April since you ask - Mark Hix is this week launching a special Titanic Centenary menu at his Selfridges restaurant (pictured here). The three course menu recreates dishes from the final First Class menu served up on board the ill-fated ship and Mark will be giving each dish a 'Hix twist'.
So far it sounds interesting, but Hix's comment on the idea may be a little frivolous for some diners' tastes: "What could be more fun than offering customers the opportunity to try a few of the dishes from the original First Class Tasting menu?" he asks. Maybe he'd have been better calling it 'interesting' rather than 'fun' and we're pretty certain that one of his desserts - The Iceberg - wasn't on that original menu.
If you're of a mind to try it - the menu, which is £19.50 for two courses and £24.50 for three is as follows:
Four Lindisfarne rock oysters
Wye Valley asparagus vinaigrette
Duck liver parfait with toasted brioche and Kingston Black jelly
Poached Loch Duart salmon with mousseline sauce and stonecrop
Spring chicken saute with morels and wild garlic
Chargrilled lamb cutlets with cucumber and mint
Waldorf Pudding with cider brandy ice-cream
Peaches in Chartreuse jelly
The Iceberg
The Titanic Centenary menu will be served at Hix Selfridges from 10th to 29th April 2012.
