Mark Hix has launched a fair few ventures in the last few years, but one of them has caused more trouble than the others. His project at the Tramshed in Shoreditch has been beset by planning problems and at one time looked like it wasn't going to happen at all.
But now, everything has been sorted out and Hix at the Tramshed is back on track and due to open in May. Echoing the approach of Burger and Lobster, the menu will be focused around chicken and steak. So you'll either choose a whole Woolley Park chicken to share and 200g multiples of ‘mighty marbled’ sirloin steak. There will also be a daily changing selection of three starters to share and and dessert will be available too.
The restaurant will take up the main hall of the Tramshed area in "refectory style" dining along with some banquettes and a new mezzanine level is being installed at the back with a view of the action below. There will also be bar space with counter dining. All this will be surrounded by specially commissioned artwork from Damien Hirst - all featuring cows and chickens but hopefully nothing that will put you off the food...
Finally, we hear there is also another area of the building that might be linked to the restaurant - possibly to be used as a gallery or farmers' market.
Hix at the Tramshed opens in May 2012.
