When Joel Antunes returned to the London dining scene in mid 2010, the reaction to his food at Brasserie Joel was highly positive but critics were less enthused about the location. As it was ensconced in the Park Plaza hotel, many Londoners who fear crossing the Thames wished for a more central London position. For them, there is now cause for celebration.
Antunes has announced he will be opening a restaurant in Mayfair - Kitchen Joel Antunes. As part of a major revamp to the Embassy Mayfair, Antunes is taking over the ground floor restaurant as well as the large open terrace.
Eating there, you can expect a "Provençal-based menu" with dishes including Jerusalem artichoke velouté with poached eggs and truffles, Osso bucco gremolata, Sweetbreads with porcini and Roast sea bass with lemon. For dessert, expect the classics and a few new creations like poached pear with yogurt sorbet, Chocolat liegois with nougatine and a Kit-Kat peanut bar.
Kitchen Joël Antunès will be open Monday to Saturday for lunch and dinner from November. Brasserie Joel will continue at the Park Plaza hotel with Antunes acting as consultant.
The restaurant opens on Tuesday 21 November on 29 Old Burlington Street - with a 25% discount off food for the first week. Call 020 7494 5660 to book.
