A Welsh streetfood van in the first year of operation won a coveted trading spot in London's Olympic Village when it came top of the British Street Food Awards 2011 this weekend.
Cafe Môr from Pembrokeshire combines foraged food with sustainable seafood and specialises in seaweed. For the finals of the Awards, which took place at Harvest at Jimmy's, they turned up in a clapboard-style van, built by owner Jonathan Williams' boat-builder brother, serving up a flatbread stuffed with Welsh bacon, Gower cockles and laverbread topped with egg and cream and a Pembrokeshire crab sandwich with dulse butter served with tomato, lettuce and rocket.
This year's judges, which included Richard Corrigan and Fay Ripley, judged Cafe Môr the winner in three categories in total: Best Looking Mobiler, Best Drink - for their La Bomba and Best of the Best which means their Olympic Dream is coming true.
London street vans Wholefood Heaven and Street Kitchen both picked up a gong for Best Main Dish for their Buddha Bowl and Slow roast pork shoulder with coleslaw, pickled apples and mustard dressing respectively.
