Here at Hot Dinners, like many other foodies, we would easily rate our lunch at Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck as the best lunch we've ever had. So we're keeping a close eye on the Mandarin Oriental, where Heston will finally be opening his second UK restaurant in October (oddly we're not counting the Little Chef).
This will be the second high profile restaurant to open at the Mandarin Oriental, following the highly successful launch of Bar Boulud London in May.
Today things moved forward an inch as Heston announced he'd finally christened the joint (formerly occupied by Foliage). It will be called (drumroll) "Dinner by Heston Blumenthal".
According to Blumenthal, he was looking to "find a name that encapsulated the concept, which has a strong focus on dishes inspired by historic British gastronomy, but was also a bit of fun." Exactly what this all means menu-wise is still on the hush-hush side - but expect more details next week. That's when, according to Caterersearch, the chef who'll be heading up the new restaurant for Heston, Ashley Palmer-Watts, will be showing off a few dishes from the menu at an "international chef congress" Identia London.
