World's most expensive omelette goes on sale in London

Should the Tories finally hammer out an agreement with the Lib Dems, they may wish to celebrate in style by ordering the gulls’ egg omelette on the menu for a very limited period at their favourite restaurant Boisdale in Bishopsgate. But they best not put the omelette in question on expenses – even the kindest auditor would surely baulk at the hefty £90 price-tag.

According to reports, the omelette in question consists of Hebridean Blue lobster, West Minch cock crab, Wye Valley asparagus and Piedmont summer truffles, with the ‘star ingredient’ being the gulls’ eggs which of course have a super-short season of mere weeks.

Ranald Macdonald, proprietor and founder of Boisdale explained: ‘Gull’s eggs are very rare and one of the short-lived gems of the season. They have a magnificent flavour, make an incredibly light and fluffy omelette and are ridiculously expensive. I am delighted to be able to offer our customers this rare culinary experience for a very short period of time.’ The season ends on May 15, so you'd better hurry if you'd like to find out what it tastes like.
