What: Farmer J
In a nutshell: Healthy, wholesome grub for City folk
Summing it all up: If you secretly, or not so secretly just bloody love a good health food fad, then the new Farmer J’s the place for you, with an expanded menu that's as nutritious as it is on-trend.
Good news for lovers of Farmer J’s health-focused nosh - they’re opening a second restaurant on King William Street, which will be open for weekend brunch and - wait for it - have kombucha on tap (!).
The early-to-rise crowd will be able to choose from a selection of their ‘Fieldtrays’, featuring dishes like salt beef hash browns, shakshuka, zaatar toast and even charred flank steak - which sounds like a bloody great, if heavy, way to start the day. If you’re in a hurry (aka late - no judgement), you can grab a smoked salmon bagel, or one of their sourdough pastries and muffins. Your ever-important caffeine fix will be provided by Redemption Roaster, or for a more wholesome boost, go for one of their ‘Muscle Builder’ smoothies, made with tahini and peanut butter for extra protein.
Lunchtime sees plenty of hearty, healthy options, from harissa chicken to charred tofu steak and everyone’s on-trend veg, whole roasted cauliflower, which they’ll be serving with black sesame seeds.
Evening time there’ll be more substantial dining, like lamb shawarma, or a whole roasted celeriac, while for brunch there’s banana pancakes and a shakshouka sharer for four, topped with sliced avo and ‘house’ tahini.
On the alcohol front, Farmer J will be serving beer and ale on tap, although we’re quite intrigued at the sound of this kombucha on tap, which will also be making an appearance in several of their cocktails.
