April's hottest restaurants, lots of new offers, Game Bird Test Drive & more... | Hot Dinners
There were several things we particularly liked about The Game Bird - the subject of our latest Test Drive. But chief among them was that it serves a main course so lethally stuffed with molten butter that you're required to don a leather bib as protection. Just as dangerous, but to your wallet rather than wardrobe, is our monthly update of our Hot Right Now list. You're definitely going to want to work your way through these.
5 April - head to Novikov’s Asian Restaurant at 6pm to see them carving up an 80kg Bluefin tuna – flown-in fresh that day from an ethical farm off the coast of Malta. Following the ceremony, carried out by sushi master Mori San, guests will be able to enjoy a special tuna menu in both the Asian and Italian restaurants.
5 April - Patty&Bun Old Compton Street is having a night with street artist Artista. Buy limited edition Patty&Bun x Artista t-shirts and the first 50 through the door get a free burger designed by Artista herself.
12 April - Ben Spalding is taking over Wolf Restaurant in Stoke Newington for a night cooking his take on Italian food. It's £49 for a 10 course menu featuring such dishes as Agnolotti with shortrib farcie and chianti and Salted Caramel Cannoli. To book, call 020 7254 4141 or email email@example.com.
14 April - Hot Cross BBQ sees Hardeep Singh Kohli and Neil Rankin of Temper team up with Grub Club’s leading pop-up chef Rosie Llewellyn, at Brunswick Studios for a Trekstock fundraiser. Tickets start at £45 and go up to £100 for unlimited fizz, cocktails and wine.
13-14 May - for beer lovers there's only one place to be this weekend, Brooklyn Brewery’s Beer Mansion at MC Motors, Dalston, an experience combining beats, food (from Voodoo Rays, Killa Dilla and Andrew Clarke) tech, art, games and beer. Tickets are £30.
14 May - Mustard in Brook Green kicks off a series of West London Sunday Roast takeovers featuring the Head Chef at Le Vacherin in Chiswick, Marc Wainwright who'll be serving up roast lamb along with apple crumble for dessert. Tickets are £25 and include a cocktail (kids portions available) - email firstname.lastname@example.org to book.
Tamarind Kitchen - Soho Tamarind Mayfair has opened a sister restaurant on Warrior Street, bringing with it goshts, currys and koftas galore, as well as a sharing platter with a trio of tandoor-cooked game. (soft launch until 6 April).
Tommi's - Soho Tommi's Burger Joint produces some of the best burgers in town and they've now opened in the heart of Soho for their latest branch. Expect a few new things on the menu. (soft launch until April 4)
Blacklock - The City Blacklock, famed for their chops, have opened in the City for their second restaurant. There's an extended menu with new cuts, starters, and their all-important cocktails in a 100-cover restaurant with reservations available.
Summers - Kilburn St John Bread and Wine chef Ruairidh Summers has moved on, planning his first solo restaurant about the Colin Campbell pub in Kilburn. Expect lots of Irish cooking. Opens 5 April (soft launch until 16 April).
Dandy Cafe - Newington Green Dan Wilson and Andrew Leitch are making the leap from a shipping container in London Fields to a new spot in Newington Green, taking with them their much-praised food, natural wine and of course, loads of speciality coffee. Opens 5 April.
Little Jose - Canary Wharf With Jose, Pizarro and Jose already open, the Spanish chef is opening another restaurant named after himself. Expect Spanish food with more of a takeaway focus than before.Opens 6 April.
