We've been reading a lot about how London's restaurant industry foresees troubling times ahead. But one thing's for certain, this city's chefs flipping love a challenge <sorry>. Faced with every place in town turning out something special for Pancake Day, restaurants are really upping the ante with all manner of marvellous batter creations hitting menus this week and next.
5 March - José Pizarro joins Peter Gordon at The Providores and Tapa Room for a one-off dinner. Dishes will include confit duck leg croquettes with plum and ginger sauce from Peter and calamar bocadillo with alioli from José. Tickets cost £58/head, including food, welcome drink and service. 12 March - If you're in town for the Natural Wine fair you might want to try The Hive in Cambridge Heath which is hosting a natural wine tasting with artisanal Northern Italian wine maker Rocco di Carpeneto where you'll get to try three wines they have chosen to showcase. Tickets cost £10.
12 March - head to Clipstone for their brunch with Amsterdam restaurant Guts & Glory. The menu of 6 smaller courses, including oyster ceviche with kohlrabi and tosa dashi vinegar is £30. To book email firstname.lastname@example.org.
16 March - Ceviche is celebrating its 5th birthday with a Ceviche Challenge pitting Gizzi Erskine and Ben Tish from the Salt Yard against Mark Jarvis, Head Chef at Anglo, Anna Hansen, Oklava's Selin Kiazim, Bonny Porter co-founder of Balls & Company and Neil Rankin. Yard Sale Pizza - Walthamstow The latest Yard Sale pizza sees them heading further north to Walthamstow. Expect the same pizzas that have earned them a big following and brunch too. (Soft launch until Feb 26)
Hawksmoor - Borough This sees the steak and cocktails masters at Hawksmoor head south of the river. It'll be a huge big-windowed building filled with all your favourites.
La Bonne Bouffe - East Dulwich La Bonne Bouffe is bringing an all-French menu and dining experience to East Dulwich. There’ll be well matched cocktails, wines, and classic desserts too.
Rail House Cafe - Victoria This is a bar and restaurant from the people behind Riding House Cafe and Village East serving all day dining in a huge space in the Nova Victoria development. Opens February 27 (soft launch until March 3)
Famous Flames - Kentish Town The latest restaurant from Bea Vo, also behind Stax Diner and Boondocks, is serving up flame grilled burgers and fried wings. Opens February 25 (Soft launch until Feb 26)
Balans Soho Society - Clapham Luxury and high society is the theme but not the price point at Balans, who are celebrating their 30th year by opening their latest venue in Clapham. Opens February 27 (Soft launch until March 5)
