Test Driving Bisushima at home - super sushi delivered

bisushima london london sushi delivery reviewHow the food arrives when you order from Bisushima (except for the scallops which we plated up ourselves).

So, what do we need to know about Bisushima?

In ordinary times, this new rooftop restaurant would have been quite the talk of the town with views out across Trafalgar Square and a high-end sushi offering plus large terraces for alfresco dining. Founder Sergey Men used to be a sushi chef himself, and his plans for Bisushima were for a restaurant full of buzz.

But, as we all know, Lockdown happened and there was barely any time for this place to open to diners before it had to switch to a delivery offering. But we're all at home now, so their home delivery menu is what we've tried.

What's on the menu?

Bisushima's chef Takuya Watanabe (from Michelin-starred Jin Paris) and Alex Furusawa (Bisushima’s Head Sushi Chef) have come up with a menu featuring highlights from the launch menu. There's a mix of chef selections or you can put together your own meal with sushi and hot dishes from the grill along with tempura and temago.

Here's what we had:

bisushima london london sushi delivery reviewChef's selection of sashimi (£25 for nine pieces) - Dry Aged Trout sashimi, seabass and aged bluefin tuna. Sparkling fresh sashimi and beautifully presented.

bisushima london london sushi delivery reviewToro Taku Maki - Dry-aged rich marbled Bluefin Tuna with pickled Radish roll (£18) - some of the best maki we've had in a while.

bisushima london london sushi delivery reviewDashimaki Tamago with winter truffle (£15 without the truffle, £35 with) - a traditional omelette with dashi and a topping of winter truffle for a lovely sweet and savoury dish.

bisushima london london sushi delivery reviewBaby Squid Kara-Age with coriander dressing (£12).

bisushima london london sushi delivery reviewYuan chicken risotto - Grilled corn-fed Yuan infused chicken, Japanese risotto with Shiitake (£18).  A creation of executive chef Takuya Watanabe, who worked in France for a while. It’s his adoptation of East meet West.

Room for dessert?

There's a very limited dessert option which makes it easy to decide what to order with just two choices.

What about drink?

There's a full range of drinks options, from their own cocktails to beer, wines and sake. We had a bottle of Waiting Love Sparkling sake (£30) - a pretty dry sake from the Niizawa Brewing Co, which went particularly well with the scallops and sashimi.

Overall thoughts

Good sushi doesn't come cheap and this is undoubtedly good sushi. That bluefin tuna maki was particularly gorgeous and there's a wider range of hot dishes on offer at Bisushima than a lot of other places. That makes this a particularly useful option if you're putting together more of a feast than a quick sushi fix. We'd like to slowly work our way through the other sushi selections here now...
